India has got many rich industrialists. Many of them are ranked in the richest people in the world. Our country has hundreds of industrialist but we discuss only the top 10 industrialists in India 2022. No doubt, they have contributed significantly to the economic development of the country. Some of them are first generation entrepreneurs.

During the pandemic crisis of 2020 and 2021, a large number of industrialists donated substantially to PM CARES Fund for setting up medical oxygen gas plants in different parts of the country. India was facing shortage of oxygen. With the help of people and industrialists, the country overcame the crisis.

Coming back to industrialist, India needs a steady stream of entrepreneurs for wealth creation. However, their wealth continues to waver as it is invested in stocks. Our list of top industrialists in 2022 is based on Forbes magazine’s ‘The World’s Real Time Billionaires 2022’.

1. Gautam Adani

Gautam Aadni has emerged as the wealthiest person in India after surpassing Ambani. He owns and manages Mundra port in Gujarat including various airports. Adani Group operates seven companies including Adani power, Adani transmission, Adani Green Energy, Adani Ports, Adani enterprises, Adani Total gas and Adani Wilmar.

2. Mukesh Ambani

Mukesh Ambani is 2nd wealthiest person in India after Adani. The company has business interests in petrochemicals, telecom, media, oil and gas and retail. Reliance is the largest company by market value listed on the stock market.

3. Shiv Nadar

Shiv Nadar ranks third in the list of top ten industrialists in India 2022. He is co-founder of HCL established in 1976. The company has now become one of the largest software service providers in the country with revenue of USD 102 billion. He has resigned and his daughter has succeeded him. Now, he runs Shiv Nadar Foundation.

4. Cyrus Poonawalla

Cyrus Poonawala ranks amongst the leading industrialist with net worth of USD 25.8 billion. Poonawalla started serum institute in 1966. The company is now the largest vaccine maker in the world. His son, Adar Poonawalla, is now the CEO of Serum. He has invested considerable money to make covid-19 vaccinations.

5. Radhakishan Damani

Radhakishan Damani started Avenue Supermarket. Since his supermarket IPO in 2017, his wealth has continued to soar. His retail model has worked wonderfully. Now he is the king retail. His retail venture started with just one store in Mumbai. Presently, he has over 225 stores in the city. Besides, he has considerable stakes in numerous businesses. The Bombay Tycoon also has a 156-room hotel by the name of Radisson Blu Resort in Alibaug, a popular beachfront in Mumbai.

6. Savitri Jindal and Family

Om Prakash Jindal started founded the Jindal Group. He was chairman of the group till his death in helicopter crash 2005. After the death of O P Jindal, Savitri Jindal, his widow runs the group companies. Jindal has business interests in many industries including cement, power, steel, etc. With a net worth of over USD 19.9 billion, Savitri Jindal and family is ranks among the richest Indians.  Group companies are divided amongst the four sons of O P Jindal.

7. Lakshmi Mittal

Lakshmi Mittal has net worth of USD 18.5 billion in 2022. He is chairman of ArcelorMittal with revenues of USD53.3 billion. Hailing from Rajasthan, Mittal completed his education from Kolkata University.  He runs the largest steel and mining company in the world.  Now, his son, Aditya Mittal, has taken over as the CEO of the company. However, Lakshmi Mittal works as executive chairman of Arcelor Mittal.

8. Kumar Birla

Kumar Birla inherits a business that has legacy going before the Independence of India.  Birla’s are a household name in the country. He now runs Aditya Birla Group generating annual revenue of over USD 46 billion. The group has business interests in cement, telecom, textiles, financial services and aluminium. And, he resigned as chairman from Vodafone India in 2021. It is a company that came into being after merger of Idea Cellular and Vodafone India in 2018.

The group has strong presence in many sectors. Presently, it is planning to enter the paint industry. However, it is not just the intention but the group has committed considerable investment for the purpose. No doubt, it will be in direct competition with Pidilite Industries. The runs companies like Grasim, Ultra Cement, Aditya Birla Money, Aditya Birla Fashion, etc.

9. Dilip Shanghvi

Dilip Shanghvi runs Sun Pharma, which is the largest pharmaceutical company in India. He has a net worth of over USD 16.3 billion. Sun Pharma owner is among the richest Indians. The company clocks annual revenue of over USD 4.5 billion.  There is a story that Dilip Shanghvi got USD 200 from his father to start the business. Sun Pharma grew chiefly by buying other companies including Ranbaxy Laboratories in 2014. He has also business interests in other sectors. Noticeably, the pharma tycoon has invested in oil, gas and renewable energy. His company also donates Oxygen Plant in India under CSR activity.

10. Sunil Mittal

Sunil Mittal is in the list of top industrialists in 2022 and is the first generation entrepreneur from Ludhiana. He is the founder of Bharti enterprises which operates various companies in different industries including Bharti Airtel. His main business is telecom where Airtel is the 2nd largest mobile operator in the country. With net worth of USD 15.3 billion, the first generation entrepreneur is one of the wealthiest Indians.  Though Bharti Foundation, he has contributed significantly in the education sector. However, Bharti emprises owner comes from a respected family. His father, Sat Paul Mittal, was member parliament (MP) for two terms. He was elected from Punjab in 1976 and 1982. And, he was also nominated to Rajya Sabha for one term in 1988. Besides telecom, Sunil Mittal has business interests in food, insurance, real estate, hospitality, finance, etc.
